56 new digital cameras in 2010 (50% more than last year)
We have just updated the list of new digital cameras of 2010. We have a total of 56 (!) new digital cameras in this brand new year. And we are only counting the 15 most interesting manufacturers. If you add GE, BenQ, Polaroid, faux-Rollei, Praktica, Sanyo, Vivitar, etc, who knows how many you get!
This happened in just ten days, with an average of 5.6 new cameras per day!
Of the 56 new digital cameras, we have:
+ one DSLR (Alpha A450)
+ one mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (Samsung NX10)
+ two RAWsumers (Casio EX-FH100, Kodak Z981)
+ five superzooms (four of which at 10X)
Alarming pace compared to 2009: 50% more cameras year-over-year
When you compare the number of cameras announced this year compared to the whole month of January in the 2009 model year, it is insane. The whole month of January 2009 had 48 new digital cameras, 36 of which came out during the first ten days of the month. So we have 50+% more cameras year-over-year!
Granted, no two years are the same, and there's always market forces and other factors involved...
As far as 2008, the list of cameras for that year is in a different format, so we can't compare until we reformat it in chronological order.
What do you think?
This begs for some polling. We have two polls, the most interesting development at CES 2010 according to your opinion and the most disappointing. You can suggest new options for the poll by adding them under "Other" (they won't appear automatically), or by leaving a comment. For the "most disappointing" we are only including actual things that happened. I'm sure many people wanted a $1000 35mmFF DSLR or a new digital rangefinder, or a new DX prime, but that's a topic for another day.
These are multiple-answer polls, so you can vote for as many items as you agree with...
