The Canon G11 and S90 show

Certainly Canon cannot complain copiously concerning camera-year-2009 competition in the RAWsumer world. Their new power-duo of the G11 and S90 did not get any direct competitors. So their new cameras only have to fight the 2008 models (LX3, GX200, P6000, G10) in this price-range.

The Canon G11 show
The G11 has just received its most high-profile review yet, at Imaging Resource. Pros and cons and conclusions are at the bottom of the main page, with more advanced/technical topics in the other sub-tabs. The list of pros and cons is long, but that doesn't necessarily reveal the outcome, which is... (revealed on their website!).

We already mentioned this, but in case you missed it, DC Resource has posted their usual pre-review sample pictures with the G11, and they say their review of it is "coming very soon". UPDATE: The DC-Resource review is now published!

More opinions on the camera are coming in, the latest one from Photofocus, where they point to a use-case where the G11 might do as good of a job of the average DSLR.

The Canon S90 show
We start with the S90 taking on the lens of the Ricoh GRD III at Serious Compacts. There are many factors to consider when making such comparison, and Serious Compacts walks through their testing technique. Conclusions are at the bottom but as usual, we won't spoil the fun here.

After a tiring test routine at Serious Compacts, the S90 has earned some recreation time. Derrick Story took the camera out to an NBA game, to see how it performs when "digiscoped". DS shares his findings.

More fun for the S90, as the Hype Beast uses it as a life-stream camera.
