New top selling DSLRs: Nikon D3000 jumps, Panasonic is La Resistance
Time for a new installment in the on-going soap-opera that is the top selling DSLRs at Amazon. If this is the first time you are seeing this, be sure to read the introduction first.
Nikon D3000 takes a leap
When the price drops, they will come! The Nikon D3000 with the kit lens is flat at $500 and this new discount was enough to make the camera jump into the top five, as it is priced favorably compared to all the other Nikon DSLRs below the D90.
Canon T1i reigns supreme
Who is going to complain when you can get the EF-S 55-250mm IS lens nearly-free with the standard T1i w/18-55mm EF-S IS kit thanks to the instant rebates which expire November 21st or so. So the camera remains at #1, even though the 55-250mm lens is on a "1 to 3 weeks" shipping delay.
Panasonic is La Resistance
The Pentax K7 retail "civil war" (two competing kits with competitive prices (body only and kit w/18-55mm WR)) and price-uptick caused the camera to bolt out of the Top 25, the Olympus E-P1 at $750+ is not priced for the Top 20, so it is up to Panasonic to carry the non-CaNiKoN flag in the Top 20. The problem with Panasonic? Well, they have to look in the mirror once again since they can't keep their hot new GF1 kits in-stock for more than a few hours at a time.
Speed-demon battle outside the Top 25
We started looking beyond the Top 25 as there is a Canon 1D Mark IV vs Nikon D3s battle brewing. Obviously we are still in the pre-order stage, but in this snapshot, the D3s was nine spots ahead of the Mark IV. As usual, they avoid a head-on collision as one is an APS-H and the other is a 35mmFF, but they still occupy the same functionality-space.
Nikon D3s gives them license to exist
Both the Nikon D700 and D300s appear to have been given a new lease on life after the Nikon D3s came out at 12mp, perhaps making it feel "okay" to have 12-megapixels in the Nikon universe, even though many of The Others are at 15mp and 18mp+.
