MemoryStick firestorm (October 2009 edition)
With Fuji finding a practical, smart and graceful way out of the xD memory card format, it is now up to Olympus and Sony to "carry the flag" of the proprietary formats. Olympus, with the speed and agility of an ice-berg, has been slowly sneaking in SDHC or microSD to some of their cameras, while Sony remains MemoryStick-exclusive with their Cybershots, while continuing to show flexibility with their DSLRs.
All this is a preface to a mini firestorm at CNet, where a recent review of the Sony WX1 set off another installment of the memory card wars.
And they are not really wars, it's just two companies with bruised egos stubbornly holding on to what could-have-been. Sometimes it is a good idea to write the "We surrender" letter :)
