Sony officially presents the ICX685CQZ sensor (of Canon G11 and S90is fame)
Image Sensors World has spotted the official announcement of the new Sony 10mp 1/1.7" sensor in the latest edition of the Sony Semiconductor newsletter. Meet the new ICX685CQZ sensor.
As you may recall from the G11 post, one forum user spotted the PDF file with a question as to whether this was indeed the sensor of the G11 and S90 is. It looks like the answer is a very high probability of "Yes!" (Jon Anderson not included).
As you can see from the specs, the sensor is limited to 30fps VGA output, which is why these two new Canons don't offer HD video.
Barring any exclusivity agreements with Canon, we hope and wish that more digital camera manufacturers use this sensor in upcoming serious fixed-lens digital cameras!
