Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is the first digital camera with a built-in projector

The new S1000pj becomes the first digital camera to offer a built-in projector, thus making the camera more attractive to gadgetologists and techies. Too bad it wasn't available for Comic Con, because the attendees there would have found some creative ways to take advantage of it! Yes, the "pj" in Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is for projector, not pajamas :)

Projector-aside, this looks like a typical bijou point-and-shoot compact, with a 12mp 1/2.3" sensor, 5X folded optics VR that starts at 28mm wide (like the new S70), and a 2.7-inch LCD display.

But obviously what most people are interested in finding out is what will the projector deliver for them? The main projector specs are as follows:

+ Brightness: Up to 10 lumens
+ Image size: 5 to 40 inches
+ Throw distance: Approx. 10 inches to 6 and a half feet (0.26m to 2m)
+ Battery life: about an hour
+ Output Resolution: VGA equivalent

You can pre-order it for $430 with an expected release date of September 2009.
