New Sony workhorse 28-75mm f2.8 SAM (35mm full-frame) lens for $800
With Sony having now two 35mm-full-frame DSLRs, there is a need for more 35mmFF lenses, and Sony is trying to feed this hunger with the brand new 28-75mm f2.8 SAM lens. Yes, this is a SAM lens, and this is the first non-DT lens that is also a SAMmie.
This is a 35mmFF lens, so you can use it on all your Sony and Minolta DSLRs. On APS-C dSLRs, you get the "equivalent" of roughly 42-112mm. IT has four aspheric elements, a 67mm filter, the SAM motor (smooth autofocus motor), and a 7-blade circular aperture. It is not a feather-weight lens, it weighs 20oz.
One thread in the dpreview Sony forum discusses the differences between it and the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens which goes for $500.
The lens will go for $800 and it is listed at Sony Style, but we haven't found anyone taking pre-orders yet. In Europe the price is 800 euro says Focus Numerique.
