New Samsung compact digital cameras have two LCD displays each (DualView)
Samsung has announced two new compact digital cameras that have two (2) LCD displays, one on the front and one on the back. Check them out at CNet Asia. You can also check out the summary of their main specifications.
And here is a first take on the Samsung ST550 also from c|net Asia.
We do have to give Samsung credit for continuing to try to come up with alternative and innovative ideas in their camera designs. Now if they can match that at the implementation level...
We will have more details on these tomorrow, after we recover from the Ricoh GRD3 immersion ;-)
Meet the Samsung TL225 (aka ST550)
The defining characteristic of the TL225 (ST550) are the dual LCD displays, one on the front (1.5 inches) and a touch-screen on the back (3.5 inches). Samsung was probably the company ideally suited to come up with this design, since they have the manufacturing to do so. The official name for this feature is "DualView".
The next interesting thing is a 4.6X optical zoom lens that starts at 27mm wide. Considering the potential uses of the dual-screens, having wide-angle was a good design choice. It comes with optical stabilization and it carries the Schneider-Kreuznach name.
It also includes a variety of features popular with the hot cellphones, GPS, touch-screen, wireless, bluetooth and the like.
Other features include a 12mp 1/2.3" sensor (oy vey!), 720p video, lots of "smart touch" features (hello iPhone?), and things like that.
It is expected to come out in September with a starting price of $350. We checked Amazon where the camera is available for pre-orders at $350 with a shipping estimate of "1 to 3 weeks".
Meet the Samsung TL220 (aka ST500)
The TL220/ST500 goes hand-in-hand with the TL225, the main difference appears to be a 3-inch touch-screen instead of 3.5, and a price of $300 instead of $350. Also scheduled for a September release. Hey, September is just next month! Amazon estimates shipping to start in "1 to 3 weeks".
Meet the Samsung CL65 (aka ST1000)
This is a folded-optics bijou that was leaked a couple of days ago, but now it's for real. It is your typical stylish type of camera, with a 12mp sensor, a 5X lens that starts at 35mm equivalent and carries the Schneider name.
And as you can expect, it has numerous consumer-friendly and gadget-friendly features, such as a 3.5-inch touch-screen, along with 720p video, GPS and Wifi.
The initial starting price is $400 and it is also expected to come out in August 2009. As of the time of writing, this was not listed at Amazon
