Canon 7D is waiting to be unboxed (also two EF-S IS and 100mm f2.8L IS macro leaked!) (updated)
The Canon 7D is solidifying before our eyes! Canon Rumors has pictures of the 7D box (click on their picture to see a larger version of the picture) along with MTF charts of the two new EF-S IS lenses that will be announced together. The two lenses are an interesting 15-85mm f3.5-5.6 IS and a digital-standard 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS. If you do the 1.6X math in your head (or 1.58x with a calculator), you get roughly the "equivalent" of 24-136mm and 29-216mm - give or take.
It will be interesting to see how this camera performs, both how the rumored 18mp APS-C compares, and what kind of performance and pre/post-processing boost it can get from its dual-core. And what price? Name-space-wise, it is sitting between the 50D ($1100) and the 5DMk2 ($2700) with the 5DMk1 glued at $2000.
The big three (G11, S90is, SX20is) are still in pre-order status, while the new fun-zoom SX120is is expected to ship this Sunday.
Update Saturday August 29
Canon Rumors has a new update, which points to APS-C sensor, 8fps machine-gun (15 RAW), and more, along with an EF 100mm f2.8L IS Macro lens. More on the lens in this growing Fred Miranda thread. More discussions on the 7D at FM.
