Soft rumor: Leica to use Canon sensor for the full-frame Leica M9?
CanonRumors.com has posted a new soft rumor, saying that Canon and Leica are talking about the possibility of using a 5DMk2-like Canon sensor in the upcoming Leica full-frame (mythical at the moment) digital M9.
Leica has partnered with different manufacturers in the past, and just because some of their recent sensors came from Kodak, it doesn't mean they are "glued" to Kodak. After all, Kodak has been jettisoning parts left and right, the latest one being the Tel-Aviv based Leaf medium format system.
And speaking of Leica, if you missed the excitement of the Leica chiefs talking and talking and talking (or as we like to say, "Joe Biden mode") in mid-June, the admin of the Leica L-Camera-forum has summarized everything. This is a must-read post. Be sure to check the L-forums for long discussions of all these.
It answers a number of questions as well, for example, why do we see Zeiss lenses for different 35mm SLR mounts but not Leica lenses? Did I mention the L-forums summary is a must read? To make sure you can easily find it later, be sure to add it to your delicious bookmarks.
