Photography Soup (anything goes edition)
With the gear buzz quieting down a little bit, it is a good time to have a new edition of the "Photography Soup", a disorganized roundup of things that catch our attention from the photo-blogo-sphere.
Breakaway hit of the month
You may have seen it already making the rounds on the internets, but if you missed it, be sure to check it out: 78 photography rules, showing the wrong and the right way of doing things. This is posted at Gawno magazine. It is NOT intended to be taken seriously!
.edu
The Barefoot Photographer has a new tutorial on how to leave your ...footprints in your photos :-) More specifically, how to watermark. And comment #1 talks about doing this in GIMP instead of PhoShop.
Imaging Insider rounds-up 17 iPhone apps from the world of cameras and photography.
Following the success of his debut webinar, David Ziser is planning a new 90-minute webinar on lighting and composition for on-location wedding photography. Being an advanced type of a workshop, it has a rather reasonable fee of $20. Read more about it on his blog.
Chris has eight tips to make the most out of your batteries. A good reminder and reference if you are not a batteryaholic.
And if you are a lightroom user, be sure to check out the recent guest-blog tutorial by LaptopLogic.com on sharing your lightroom catalog with your laptop.
Interviews
Lens Flare 35 is a relatively new, Canon-priority website, that among other things, features in-depth interviews with Canonites and EOSians. Seven interviews are already in the books, including the New Media Photographer, and Rick Sammon.
In the pipeline, they have interviews planned with David Ziser, Art Wolfe (PBS/Travels to the Edge) and many more!
Books Etc
Photographer, blogger, photo-walker, and book-author Jeff Revell revealed on his blog that he is working on a brand new book on the Canon T1i in his series of "From Snapshots to Great Shots". His Canon 50D book has already been released, while his Nikon D5000 book is coming out next month.
One of the great things about these books is that the publisher has made available a complete chapter for free online reading (PDF), so it makes it easier for someone to decide whether the book is right for them. You can check them out at the publisher's website - 50D and D5000.
Instant Classic?
Sex and toilets (not what you think!) are included in this instant classic on composition by the master himself, Ken Rockwell.
Pictures in the pool
It is summer time, so it is a good time to put your pictures in the pool. No, not the swimming pool. The flickr pool :) We are featuring pictures from the pool on this blog, and the rebooted old blog using the flickr automated widget. We also pick pictures that grab our attention and mention them on twitter.
This feature is of the picture-sharing variety, it is not intended to be of the competition variety.
