Pentax Optio W80 review at Japanese DC-Watch
This is the first real-world review of the new waterproof Pentax W80! The review has been posted by Japanese website DC Watch and it includes full-size sample pictures, both real-world and pixel-peepiential - including a brick wall for those who like that type of thing ;-) This is a computer-translated review, but the pictures don't need translation.
[NEW!] But wait, there's more! Just posted, is the W80 review by Rod Lawton at CNet UK. This is a CNet-style review, with their own custom "office supplies" test scene! (If you are not familiar with the word "minging" as used in the review, here is the urban dictionary).
The W80 was announced in late June 2009, and it followed up on the Pentax W60, which is now catching its second-wind thanks to positive outcomes in both of the waterproof group tests at Imaging Resource and dpreview. Pentax and Olympus have been offering waterproof-or-elementproof cameras for a while now, but it wasn't until CES 2009 that some of The Others (Canon, Panasonic, Fuji) jumped into the ...pool. Sony and Nikon however have yet to make their entrance.
In terms of availability, the Pentax W80 can be pre-ordered for $300 in your choice of three colo(u)rs, while the W60 is currently available but not as easy to find. We found the pink W60 at Amazon for $242, and the silver W60 for $270 at B&H Photo.
