Micro Four Thirds puts two cameras in the Top 75 (new top sellers)
We have a new edition of the top selling digital camera charts soap opera. This edition has some Micro Four Thirds excitement in it, to disrupt the CaNoNiKoDuoPoLy. A screenshot teaser is right below, and faux-analysis follows!
Top 25 Vitals
+ five DSLRs
+ five superzooms
+ one camera under $100
Micro Four Thirds makes a dent
As we noted a few days ago, the two-front attack of the Micro Four Thirds coalition is starting to pay off, as both the just-released Olympus E-P1, along with the combo-discounted blue Panasonic G1 are now in the Top 75, which is no small feat considering the prices of $800 and $700ish respectively.
The big questions are of course, where does the E-P1 go from here, and is the Panasonic G1 price and promotion sustainable? And if yes, how far can they go?
Canon DSLR discounts mean Canon takeover
After a few weeks of price stonewalling, we saw a series of Canon DSLR discounts, putting the T1i kit at $800, the XSi kit at under $700, and the XS kit at $510. This has managed to put these three in the top six, giving Canon a clear victory over Nikon in this round.
SuperZoom Wars
Canon declares victory in this category as well, with the Sony and Nikon entries now falling far and away. Panasonic remains the main challenger, but with the FZ28 not available at a favorable price, the SX10is at $360 is running unopposed.
One thing to watch for Canon however is that the SX200is is not riding as high as some may have expected. Only time will tell, but at the same time, a couple of the new Panasonic's are in the Top 25 already.
