Catching up with recent superzoom reviews
Superzoom digital cameras continue to be one of the most popular segments of the fixed-lens digital camera market, especially after the "SLR-Traditionalists" decided to sacrifice their prosumers at the altar of "Big SLR". So let's take a look at some of the recent reviews out there...
We start with the new great hope from the world of Canon, the SX200is, getting the review treatment at Imaging Resource. The SX200is is Canon's attempt to provide a camera that outshines the popular Panasonic TZ-series. Its predecessors, the SX110is and SX100is, were attacking the TZ-series from below, while the SX200is takes a more head-on approach.
How about some love for Kodak? The Z-series users seem to be happy and find strong points with their cameras, so how does their latest megazoom with the faux-grip perform? We are talking of course about the Z980 which got its review at DigiCamReview. ISO crop comparison, pros/cons and gallery are included! Join DigiCamReview on the long and winding road to the Z980's soul :-)
Can we get some respect please? That's what the fans of the Sony superzooms are asking. Well, respect usually has to be earned. So, how did the HX1 perform at the Photo Review review? Speedy CMOS sensor? Yes! What about the rest?
How about the new Pentax superzoom? The review is not completed yet, but Imaging Resource has posted plenty of full-size lab samples. One would think that everyone posting camera or lens reviews would provide full-size samples for evaluation, but despite the calendar showing 2009, that's not always the case!
Okay, enough with the wine and cheese crowd, how about some hybrids? Like the Sanyo VPC-FH1, which has a 10X optical zoom lens and was given the review treatment by Steve's Digicams.
For more, be sure to check the Compact Reviews Organizer, and look for the superzooms in the leftmost "Superzooms" column.
