Another Pentax K7 round-up: hands-on report and new samples
It's been roughly forty hours since our previous K7 update, and we already have new news!
Hot in the forumsphere right now, a hands-on report with the camera by Photo.net user Somanna Muthanna, with a number of interesting questions and answers already in the comments section! The report is mostly text-based with lots of interesting nuggets, but it also includes some pictures of the camera body. By now we've all seen a million camera-body pictures, so the text-based feedback he is providing is great! [New!]
The Imaging Insider has compiled a list of Pentax K7 related videos, so be sure to check them out! [New!]
Next up, Chief Pentaxian Ned B has posted some teaser pictures of the K7 with a Rode streo video microphone. He also promises to upload HD videos made with the K7 and posted on Vimeo in the next few days.
Next up, Rice High has discovered new sample pictures from the "Blurry Cameraphone" guy, including a six-pack of sea/water.
We forgot to mention this in our previous update, but Imaging Resource points us (with detailed instructions) to four JPEG/RAW (DNG) full-size samples from Pentax Europe. Getting to them has a few steps, which the IR post lays out. Sometimes you have to work for the free samples ;-)
More samples, this time at WDC, says the Imaging Insider. WDC (What Digital Camera) is providing six sample pictures taken with a pre-production camera and available as full size JPEGs.
The K7 has now taken over the blog-banner at Yvon's Pentax blog!
British gadget-blog Pocket Lint has posted 28 pictures, 15 of which were taken with the Pentax K7, and 13 of which are camera body pictures. Sadly, the samples are small blog-size crops, so they are mostly for entertainment purposes. But you can participate in their insightful poll: "Do you think sports and exercise video games can replace the gym?" ;-)
Inspired by a reader's question, we ask this question to everyone, right now, based on what is known, and for entertainment purposes, which one would you pick, Pentax K7 or Panasonic GH1?
Reactions in the Forums
We start with a simple test but of interest to fans of M-lenses (not Leica), exposure metering with the M 28mm f2 and the K7 in the PentaxForums (also mentioned as PFF in this blog for short).
A Jenny Craig discussion continues in the PentaxForums forums where the weight of the K7 is discussed and contrasted. It looks like even the K7 is not safe from Mannequinism? ;-)
Too much confusion about the K7 features? Can't get no relief? There is an on-going (now nine pages long) PFF thread that focuses (no pun intended) solely on Feature-related questions. Focusing forum users is of course like herding bloggers cats, so you can't expect 100% ;-)
Meanwhile in the dpreview forums, one forum user has taken a snapshot of the pulse at the non-Pentax forums, trying to see what the other brand users are saying (or not saying) about the K7.
And some great news for fans of janneman02's innovative "SR test". He had a new testing device delivered, so expect more excitement in his tests when he gets his K7!
Prepare for these common K7 mispellings
Because of the way keyboards are structured, you should expect these K7 misspellings: "Ky", "K&", "Ku", "K^" and "K*" - especially in places where you can't edit what you wrote (eg Twitter, some forums, etc)
