The new DSLR will be the Pentax K7D and revealed in late May
New information from Austria in the PentaxForums mega-thread (page #41, post #606) now reveals the name of the rumored camera, the Pentax K7D. The official revelation (announcement) will come in the 3rd week of May 2009.
But the name alone reveals intentions, Pentax going to a single-digit camera hints this will be a tier above the K10D/K20D. Pentax, like Canon (Pentax fans will probably cringe at the last three words), removes zeros from camera lines that have more advanced features than the previous line.
Now what will inflate this bubble during the next four weeks is speculation as to whether Pentax will actually try something different or alternative to what we already have out there. Will the K7D be an expected and predictable DSLR or will they go outside the box?
Reactions
The discussion picks up in the dpreview Pentax forum as well, while the full-frame dreams resurface but they get crashed by Day..light.
Update!
A new outline/profile picture (that doesn't say much) has surfaced in the PF Mega-Thread, see new pictures starting at page #46, post #682.
The "resistance" to the built-in flash seems to be fading away. It's getting more obvious than it is there :)
Update #2
One of the forum users has used math and science to extrapolate the new camera size compared to the Pentax K10D. You can see his work and ensuing discussion and speculation on page #49, post #732.
