New Nikon 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 DX offers a new wide-zoom option

Users of DX/APS-C Nikon-mount DSLRs, including the brand new D5000, which by the way are the vast majority at the moment, have a new option in the world of wide-angle, the new Nikon 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 DX lens. Announced today, this lens will offer the "equivalent" of roughly 15-36mm (give or take) when mounted on a DX/APS-C DSLR.

The price however, as you can expect, bites, it is a starting price of $900 with a May 2009 estimated release date but for those who can't wait, it is already available for pre-order at Amazon.

Other specs of interest include close-focusing to 24cm, and the following buzzwords: SWM, IF, ED, SIC, and M/A switch. The lens weighs just over one pound, with 77mm filter size.

For more, be sure to check the official Nikon press release at the Imaging Insider, and technical details on the lens at Nikon.
