Wild rumor: Pentax K3D with a 22mp Square Sensor DSLR

Thanks to one of our readers for the tip! There is a wild rumor in the dpreview Pentax forum from a person with an engineering background that created the account in 2006 but only started posting with this rumor. However, that person has (presumably)-intentionally left a trail so it's not your typical "just registered to post a rumor" dpreview forum user. Because of the person's engineering background, a lot of the details (eg math) in the rumor may be correct, but that doesn't necessarily mean the rumor is not a dream or wishlist.

Some of the alleged specs of such a camera:
+ square image format (1.3X of 35mmFF)
+ 22mp sensor when used in square format (23.5x23.5mm) DFX format
+ 14.6mp in traditional format
+ can be used with most Pentax APS-C (DA) lenses
+ in-camera orientation (thanks to square sensor) means no need for vertical grip
+ and lots more including some user-created diagrams.

This sounds like an interesting and unique idea, and could perhaps "compute" with the talk of Samsung working on a larger size sensor but later saying they are not coming out with a 35mm full frame camera.

Again, please note that this is a RUMOR, and quite possibly someone's R&D dream. But what if it was true? We blog, you decide!
