New Nikon 35mm f1.8G DX comes out at around $200 (update II)
As rumored, Nikon has announced a brand new DX lens, the Nikkor 35mm f1.8G DX. Yes, DX. The DX is not a typo! The price is a moderate $200 which is a good thing considering the economy. The lens is available for pre-orders at Amazon for $200 and free shipping. No shipping estimate is given, but the website says "temporarily out of stock" which is typically promising. The Japanese price is 35000 yen with a March 6 release date.

Update #2
Nikon comes out of their Ivory Towers and talks to the masses about this new lens. The interview at dpreview posted on Tuesday.
What is rather shocking is this statement:
"If we'd tried to make an FX 35mm F1.4 it might cost €1400, rather than €200, and we wanted to make sure it was an affordable lens"
Seven times more???
Nikon also reveals that there are more lens announcements this year. Considering this is February, it's not very shocking :)
