New Canon SX200-IS boldy goes after the fun-superzoom market
Considering that the SX1 IS had already been announced, the new Canon SX200-IS is the most exciting of this round of Powershots. It gives Canon an alternative to their current superzoom line-up, a camera that slots in-between the SX1/SX10 and the SX110.
It features a 12mp 1/2.3" sensor, a 12X optical zoom lens that starts at 28mm wide, a 3" LCD, 720p video, and LiIon batteries instead of the usual AA that most of the Canon superzooms have had throughout history.
Needless to say, Canon is getting serious at going after the Panasonic TZ-series, as the SX100is and SX110is were just not "hot enough" to challenge the TZ-series on features and fun, but they (SX100/SX110) were able to heavily undercut them (TZ-series) in price.
It is available for pre-order at Amazon for $350, in your choice of red, blue or black.
