Photography Soup (Brandaholic edition)
It's been a while since we had a Photography Soup update. Today we have a special edition, but before we get started, we have a new "IPO" from the Photography Soup to announce: Up to now, each new episode featured a "favorite" picture from a member of our flickr pool. Because we are not having as many Pho-Soup updates as we used to, we are going to create a separate feature that picks favorite pictures from a handful of flickr members participating in our pool, instead of one at a time. Look for the first episode during the weekend!
The "Brandaholic" special edition features updates from websites and blogs that specialize in one particular brand or mount.
Canon World
There's a new firmware update for the Canon 40D says Canon Rumors. It mainly fixes things, which is a good thing. With the price-delta and the reviews-so-far of the 50D, in certain cases, a good case can be made for the 40D over the 50D.
If you enjoy "Canon Talk Radio", there is a new place for talk, the Digital Picture Community Forums.
Canon is so popular, they even created their own city, where the good sheriff arrests all Nikonians on the spot ;-)
Nikon World
Thom Hogan ponders on what to expect from Nikon at PMA 2009. Coolpixies? Yes. But what else???
Is there a black dot on the sun today? NikonRumors readers discuss this ...dotty situation.
Bokeh with the 35mm f2 and 85mm 1.8 is the topic of this pictorial post at the D700 Snapper.
The Nikonians are having a contest for new members. As you may have heard, the free accounts are being phased out to "free trial" accounts. This is one of a very small number of websites that use a paid-subscription model, along with Reid Reviews and diglloyd.com
And we close with a free tip for NikonCafe.com, you can set a redirect/forward to your website, you don't have to create a separate landing page for those who visit nikoncafe.com instead of www.nikoncafe.com. We provide free unsolicited consulting services too :)
Sonolta World
Bad news for future buyers says Photo Club Alpha. Sony prices (at least in the UK) are expected to skyrocket in the next few weeks. Ouch :-(
AlphaTracks makes the case that the A350 is the perfect DSLR to photograph model trains. They have a nice gallery to showcase the cameras mad train skillz.
Olympus World
If you are a lens geek, Four Thirds User spotlights the Olympus white paper for the 9-18mm ED lens (no blue pill jokes please!). The white paper is available in PDF format for your enjoyment.
Wrotniak explains, BioFos has changed hosting services, which is why you may have had trouble accessing their site earlier on. But all is good now, and BioFos is up and running and featuring their recent Olympus E30 review.
Meanwhile, if you missed this, this is a must-read on the xD card, from Wrotniak, a long time Olympus user.
Pentax World
If you wanted to get the special commemorative Star Wars edition of the Pentax K2000, OK1000 has spotted it online, but only available for pre-orders, so please don't put on that Imperial Storm Trooper outfit just yet :)
The stars have their own time table (or time horizon if you prefer), so it's not surprise that the DA * 55mm lens will be delayed. Details via the Pentax DSLRs blog, where they also point at the ISO-scoreboard in the recent DCR comparison between the D60 and the K2000 Km.
