Canon in cruise control (new Top Selling Camera Charts update)
Welcome to a new edition of the Market Pulse featuring the latest top selling digital camera charts. Jump now if you want to avoid spoilers and the screen-shot teaser below!
Top 25 Vitals
+ Four DSLRs
+ Four SuperZooms
+ three sub-$100 cameras
SuperZoom Wars
With the Panasonic prices going up for the FZ28 and TZ5, Canon is now dominating the SuperZoom segment. Both the Coolpix P80 and the Cybershot H50 has bolted down after price increases.
Nikon DSLRs return
With more photographers and fewer mass-market consumers buying, the Nikon DSLRs (D90 body only and D40 kit) are back in the Top 25, matching Canon's count. But the Canon XSi 450D continues to be a dominant top ten seller and not threatened by any other DSLR, not even the XS 1000D. Sadly (?) none of the other manufacturers are even in the Top 100!
Prices Gone Wild
With the Holiday season officially over, the manufacturers are making adjustments, some due to overall cycles and market conditions, others perhaps due to CES 2009.
Strange things are happening with Panasonic, with the FZ28 and the TZ5 going up in price, while the Lumix FX500K (touch-screen) drops all the way down to $200.
Another strange observation is that a number of Canon Powershot models are not readily in-stock at Amazon, but expected to start shipping shortly. Does that mean holiday sales exhausted supplies?
Sony heating up
That's the good news for Sony. The bad news is that the "heat" is because the S750 is shipping for $100 and the popular W120 goes for $120 to $130.
