Web 2.0 Day: Practical use of Social Media
Web 2.0 continues to pick up momentum, slowly but steadily, as evidenced by the Web 2.0 project at Epic Edits earlier in the summer. So today we present to you some of the various Web 2.0 services we use, and why they can be practical or useful to you, the Readers.
| Web 2.0 Service | Why it may be helpful? |
|---|---|
| Twitter is a cross between chat and micro-blogging. If there are any breaking news or problems with the main blog, we will post updates at Twitter. | |
| del.icio.us | If you want to discover or re-discover photography websites and blogs, big or small, we have assembled over 800 bookmarks, which you can peruse by category (tag) or just dive right in |
| Stumble Upon | Unlike the other web 2.0 services, Stumble Upon is more of an acquired taste and has a "burn-in" period. We have "stumbled" over 1100 websites, blogs, articles, and pictures so if you add this to your Stumble pool of sources, all these websites will be added to your rotation every time you hit the green Stumble button on your browser. Assuming I understand how SU works :-) |
| Friendfeed | If you want to get most of our Web 2.0 updates in one place, Friendfeed creates a stream of updates. |
| digg | The most recognizable perhaps of all these services, we don't use Digg as much as we'd like - there's only 24 hours per day :( |
| Photography Voter | Photography Voter is like Digg, but only focuses (no pun intended) on photography-related topics. |
| NetVibes | We use NetVibes as our home-away-from-home website, with lots of material that is ideally suited for display in an automatically re-organized template. There you will find all the websites featured in "Discover New Sites" episodes, the "Reader's List", "Notable Blogs", "Reader Picture Showcase", and lots more. Just check the different tabs at the top of the page. |
