Reactions to the Nikon D3x

Share/Save/Bookmark

The Nikon D3x was made official by the powers that be at Nikon, and now that the photography world has digested the official news, it's time to check some of the reactions and opinions around the net.

Home-court advantage
Nikon super-guru-pundit Thom Hogan has written a long commentary touching upon the camera itself, but also the planning and "strategizing" among the "deciders" at Nikon. Hogan goes in-depth and speculates how different types of photographers may look at the D3x and the D3.

Nikonian "bgs" has posted his first thoughts as well, calling it "XMas came early".

Moose Peterson asks himself the question, the D3 or the D3x? (Note: For some reason individual posts won't load, if you are reading this long after it is posted, you'll have to hunt for it on his blog).

Nikon Watch is happy there were no surprises.

Of Price and Men
Ken Rockwell has some interesting opinions on the D3x, as you can expect, including a support of a boycott of the D3x until the price drops down to Earth. See the "Recommendations" segment on his page, after the specification recap.

Ryan Brenizer asks the $5000 question on the D3x. $5K being the price-delta between this and the Alpha A900.

So it's announced, but hey, says Alpha Mount World, the Alpha A900 is the king of value. We add that the Nikon D3x is the king of wishful thinking.

How short memory is! Don't be hatoring says PhotoWalk Pro and points out that photographers paid the same price in 1994 for a 1.5 megapixel brick-cam-SLR.

Quite a kerfuffle it was caused at the Scott Kelby blog, where some angry Nikonians went wild on the price-point of $8000. See some of the comments in this post that caused the kerfuffle.

More Opinions
David Kilpatrick writes why the D3x will still sell, despite the hefty price tag. The article is quite long, and even uses pictures as examples of D3x benefits, but are you convinced?

Wildlife photographer Andy Rouse, who converted from Canon to the Nikon D3, shares his thoughts at his Warehouse Express blog. Scroll past the specs, and to the "Conclusions" segment. Please note that these are "thought conclusions", not "review conclusions" :-)

Opinion in Swedish at Kamerabild.se. We'd love to tell you what they think, but we can't read Swedish :-(

Other
Will the D3x be shown at the Nikon Solutions Expo, scheduled to tip off next week in London?

For more on the D3X, be sure to check the D3X mini-blog.

This post is now final, but more on the D3x is coming in the next few hours.
