Cameras of the Year to be revealed on Monday

Already, the Reader's Choice Awards, as voted by readers like you, have been awarded. On Monday we will be revealing our picks, which are only our opinion, and not the universal truth.

And to prepare you for the shock, some of the selections we will be making may seem surprising or off-the-wall. That's because price is factored in the selections. Why is price factored in?

The majority of people do not make purchases in a vacuum - in other words, they look at price and other competitive models as well. For example, if the Nikon D3X was the only 35mm full frame DSLR out there, and the "cheapest" medium format digital camera or back was $25000 or more, then you betcha there would be a lot more interest in the D3X. But as evidenced by the waves of reactions, price and the competitive marketplace are important.

And this is a good time for you all to think about this as well. Which cameras do you think are the cameras of the year? This is something to debate with yourself during the holiday gatherings, when the relatives keep going on and on and on about how little Mikey is the second coming of Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan and Pele combined ;-)
