Samsung spinning off their digital camera business

Imaging Resource is featuring this Reuters story revealing that Samsung is going to spin off its digital cameras business. Interesting!

Opinion: Once upon a time Samsung thought they were on track to grab the #1 global market share. And they were on their way in 2007, when they had managed to grab the global #3 spot from Kodak. But apparently their inability to sell cameras when they were not on sale or on clearance and their inability to create cameras in the mid-range or above cost them.

But if we step further into the Speculation Sphere, we intersect with the Hoya-Pentax Speculation Sphere. Would an independent Samsung Digital Imaging be a better match for a merger with the digital imaging aspects of Hoya-Pentax?
