The Lensaholic: Canon lens reviews, Sony prime, and unboxing the 300-800mm
We now have the second installment of "The Lensaholic", a recurring blog post that talks about lenses and lenses only.
New Lens Reviews
David Ziser of Digital Pro Talk features the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 lens in his latest Gear Bag feature. DPT approach the lens review from a portrait photography angle, and has a number of suggestions on how to make the best of it in such situations, for example, weddings.
In episode #1 of the Lensaholic we wrote about the dpreview review of the new Canon 18-200 IS EF-S lens. Now we have another opinion by lens-specialist review site PhotoZone.de. What did they find? And how is the lens affected by the newer EOS DSLRs? Find out now!
But that's not the only review it got this week. SLR Gear, Imaging Resource's non-camera review site has posted their opinion on it.
Alpha Mount World has recently posted their review of the Sony 50mm f1.4 lens. Carl Garrard inks it. A normal lens of course on 35mm full frame (D)SLRs. On the DT/APS-C dSLRs, this will have the "equivalency" of 75mm. So what does the reviewer think and how does it fit and compare in the Alpha lens line-up? Well, no spoilers here, check the review to find out!
What's inside the box?
TWIP Photo has received their zoom-zoom Sigma 300-800mm EX DG lens, and they have posted a video unboxing. This is not exactly a pocket lens :) Users of APS-C dSLRs will get crops of 450-1200mm, which is quite "zoomy".
New Canon lens rebates
Canon is back with the rebates, but these are rebates for people who hate rebates, because they are instant rebates. Nothing to do, nothing to mail, the prices are adjusted automatically. Essentially they are a "seasonal price cut". Included are both primes and zoom lenses, along with a trio of flash guns. We will have a special feature on these in a few days, for now, you can check them all out at Amazon.
More Coming up
Stay tuned for another episode coming in a couple of days! For all the lens coverage here, be sure to check the Lenses mini-blog.
