Waves and waves of new cameras are being released, so that means more movement and excitement is coming up in the next few months. The SX10 IS and SX110 IS have just made their top 25 debut, and they promise to give the TZ5 trio and the FZ28 a good fight. Canon in the USA is missing their flagship though, the CMOS-based SX1-IS is not available in the USA, at least not initially. The production output numbers were 50,000 units which is promising in that it's not small enough to indicate a really limited availability.
DSLR-wise, lack of availability has squeezed the momentum out of all the hot new cameras, with the Canon 50D, Nikon D90 and 5D Mark II body only dropping way down since they are either not in-stock or not even available for pre-order. Likewise the LX3 has taken a big drop, with its price ranging wildly from $400 to $500. Almost as erratic as the stock market :-(
Meanwhile, another camera is emerging as a good deal for beginners or as a carry-everywhere/throw-around point and shoot. The multi-color Canon SD1100 IS has now dropped down to $160 with free shipping. Considering that it has IS and body color options that can color-match your style, it makes a great gift for the beginners, and a reasonably priced gift for the bearish Holiday Shopping season of 2008.
