New Kodak Z1485 IS (14mp, 5x IS zoom)
We missed this one during the Photokina extravaganza! Kodak has joined the party of high-megapixel compacts with the new Z1485-IS, which follows up the 12-megapixel Z1285, which sells at $13 per megapixel (not so subtle sarcasm?).
Detailed specifications of the new camera are available at the Kodak website. As we mentioned the camera uses the 14mp 1/1.72" CCD sensor, and has a 5x optical zoom lens with a pedestrian focal range of 35-175mm, but on the plus side, it has optical image stabilization. The display is a 2.5" LCD (230K), and has among other things, histogram live-view display, 1.7 burst mode with up to six images, and 30 fps 720p video. The starting price is $300, but it should drop if it follows the path of the Z1285 which is now half that price.
To see how it fits in the grand scheme of things, be sure to check out the Digital Camera List.
