The Power of Canon (New Top Sellers soap)
It is time again for a new episode of our on-going top selling digital camera charts soap opera. The announcement of the new Canons had a major impact on the top sellers chart as you can see. In fact Amazon has ran out of pre-orders (!). Check out the new top sellers charts right now. Spoilers follow starting with a screen-shot teaser and followed by analysis.
Inside The Top 25
Vroom! Two hot Canon cameras, two new entries in the Top 10. That's right, both the 5D Mark II and the G10 have made it to the top ten on the strength of pre-orders alone. That my friends is the power of Canon!
Meanwhile Panasonic has found the secret formula to a successful superzoom, keep lowering the prices and they will keep buying. Their brand new FZ28K is already close to $300, which was the price-point that made the FZ18K a regular Top 25 entry... This has also managed to squeeze out the other two hyperzooms from the Top 25 (H50, P80) as they are undercut by half a price stop by the Fz28... The TZ5 is also slowly but steadily dropping a couple of dollars every few days, making it harder and harder for people to resist.
More Action
No SX1-IS in the US market, so no splash for that, while the SX10-IS has an underwhelming debut just inside the Top 50. Meanwihle the more expensive 5DMk2 kit (with the 24-105 LISUSM lens) beat both of them are it entered inside the Top 30. Considering that is a $3500 kit on pre-order, that is very impressive for Canon EOS.
Discounts for the Nikon D700 ($2860 now), Sony T300, W150/B, and Panasonic LX3K and the LZ8, as expected, have pushed them upwards.
Sad news for fans of the "Independent" DSLRs, the only non-Canon/Nikon is the Pentax K200D kit at the very bottom of the Top 100 :-(
